Modernism Week 2026: Three Essential Tours

Modernism Week* returns to Palm Springs from February 12–22, 2026. After attending every year since 2012, I’ve learned that a few tours truly capture the mid‑century design legacy, making them perfect for first‑time visitors. These three tours provide an insightful introduction to the essence of Palm Springs Modernism.

1. Frank Sinatra’s Twin Palms Estate

Designed in 1947 by E. Stewart Williams, Twin Palms blends Hollywood glamour with early desert modernism. The tour offers a rare look at Sinatra’s legendary hideaway, complete with its clean lines, indoor‑outdoor flow, and rich mid‑century lore. It’s a cornerstone of Palm Springs history and a must for anyone who loves the intersection of architecture and celebrity culture.

2. Frey House II

If Twin Palms is the glamour, Frey House II is the soul. Perched in the mountains and designed by Albert Frey himself, this minimalist gem shows how modernism can harmonize with the desert landscape. Glass walls, natural rock, and sweeping views make it one of the most intimate and revealing tours of the week. Bonus: a ticket to the Palm Springs Art Museum.

3. Premier Double Decker Architectural Bus Tour

For the full picture, hop on the open‑air double‑decker bus. This 2.5‑hour ride rolls past iconic homes, civic buildings, and entire neighborhoods shaped by masters like Neutra, Wexler, Harrison, and more. It’s the fastest way to understand how Palm Springs became the capital of Desert Modernism.

Dress the Part

A Palm Springs Icons hat adds a playful, personal touch to your Modernism Week experience — a subtle way to show which architect or neighborhood you love most.
